Bill Maher says Trump’s win proves US isn’t as ‘divided’, ‘racial’ as media claims

Liberal comedian Bill Maher said the “silver lining” from President-elect Donald Trump’s election victory is that the country is not as “divided” as the legacy media portrays it.

On Sunday’s installment of his “Club Random” podcast, Maher and his guest, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, criticized the Democratic Party for being “ideologically caught up in identity politics.”

Smith took aim at Vice President Kamala Harris for not “paying attention” to how Latino voters wanted the southern border closed.

“You’re from California. You were the district attorney here. You were the attorney general here. You were a senator representing here. And you didn’t know Latinos would say, “No, we don’t like open borders.” You didn’t know that?” Smith exclaimed.

“There’s a silver lining here, I guess,” Maher later told Smith. “The election showed that we are much less racially tribal than we thought we were. I mean, Trump is a weird guy to bring all these different coalitions together, but, you know, he won Latino men.”

“Thirteen percent,” interjected Smith. “They said it was a 13% jump and a 5% jump in the black vote and even more of that [among] black men. That’s what they said.”

“Yes,” Maher agreed. “We’re not so divided along the lines that the media portrays us to be.”

“We are more of a centrist nation,” Smith said. “Package in MAGA right and extreme left, Squad and all that, those are the edges. Most Americans are center left or right.”

“And most Americans are just against the crazy,” Maher replied. “Democrats campaign now as if the voters don’t live here, as if they don’t live here. And they don’t go to Starbucks, the office and the store, you know, and they go. And they see women and people of color, and it doesn’t look like a racist patriarchy, a patriarchal nightmare. It doesn’t seem like that. And so, if that’s what the Democrats are selling, they just—”

“They don’t know what the hell they’re selling,” Smith slammed Democrats. “Look, I’m just going to make it clear, the Democrats got on my last damn nerve.”

“Me too,” Maher agreed.

“If it wasn’t for Trump, I would have voted Republican because I’m so sick of how they are,” Smith continued. “It’s always about the other side and engaging in demagoguery to get you my vote instead of really articulating what you’re bringing to the table to offer me and my community.”

“And they’re snobs,” Maher added.

“And they’re snobs,” Smith said. “They don’t care about the working class. They cater to the elite and accuse Republicans of doing so!”
