James Carville rips ‘brazen’ new progressive staffers for hurting Harris campaign with ‘strong fit’ on Joe Rogan: ‘Big mistake of the king’

Veteran Democratic Party strategist James Carville blasted the young progressives in Harris’ campaign, arguing that their role in botching her interview with Joe Rogan cost her the election.

A campaign official said earlier this month Vice President Kamala Harris pulled out of an appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience” because of “concerns about how the interview would be perceived within the Democratic Party” and “backlash with some of our progressive staff who she didn’t I don’t want her in it.”

Now, as many political commentators continue to debate how the Rogan snub hurt Harris, Carville blasted the staffer’s influence.

“The vice president was thinking about going on Joe Rogan’s show, and a lot of the younger, more progressive staffers took a hard line,” Carville said Tuesday at Politicon. “Apparently the campaign said it wasn’t a determining factor, but they did.”

The seasoned campaign operative went on to explain how to deal with new employees trying to assert their opinions.

“When you campaign together and hire young people to do jobs, let me tell you exactly what you say to these people. What I’d say to them: ‘Not only do I not care what you think, I’m not even going to call you by your name. You’re 23 years old, I don’t really say what you think,” he said.

“And let me tell you another big mistake, a big mistake that was made when people said, ‘Campaigns should reflect progressive values.’ No, they don’t. No, they don’t. Campaigns are authoritarian by their nature,” Carville said.

“If I was running a 2028 campaign and I had some weirdo 23-year-old saying, ‘I’ll quit if you do this,’ not only would I fire that mother — on the spot, I would to find out who hired them and fire that person on the spot!” he added. “I really don’t care about your uninformed, stupid, jackass opinion — whether you’re going to continue with Joe Rogan or not.”

While Carville has said identity politics helped sink Harris’ campaign, some, like comedian Jon Stewart, argued it didn’t.

Carville called them out, arguing that even if the Harris campaign downplayed the awakening, the fact that Democrats ran for years was not forgotten by conservatives.

“You are wrong! It has been used! See in politics – in comedy, if you tell a bad joke, who gives a ho-? Just tell a better joke and you dismiss the bad joke. In politics, if you have a bad policy, especially a policy as bad and stupid as this one was, you can throw it away, but the other side has to play. Understand that. This is a two-way thing,” he said.

Carville later lamented that many Democrats “should have lost the election because of the stupidity we had earlier this decade. My heart goes out to you, you have all served your country and your party with great distinction, you should be remembered and I am sorry that these holes contributed so much to your losing your job.”

He then sarcastically argued that the progressive Democrats got their wish at the price of victory.

“I think the progressives now have their dream,” Carville joked. “We’re more of a beach party, and we’ve gotten rid of all these moderates, and maybe you can all sit around a coffee shop in Lower Manhattan and celebrate how smart you all are.”

Carville has argued for months in the run-up to the election and after Trump’s victory that the Democratic Party needs to rethink its messaging.

Earlier this year, he made headlines when he warned that clever “female preachers” and “feminine” messages were turning away male voters.

After Trump’s victory, Carville said that Democrats have the “stink” of awakening attached to them.
