Former Republican Rep. David Jolly slams Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for meeting with Trump: ‘You can’t do that’

It was a not very cheerful message.

Former Republican congressman David Jolly blasted Democrats on MSNBC Friday — particularly the network’s “Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski — for giving President-elect Donald Trump equality over traditional American values.

Jolly fell out with Scarborough and Brezinski, who were attacked after meeting Trump, 78, at his Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida two weeks ago.

“Don’t say we’re going to give Donald Trump equality, which some people are doing in the Democratic Party, in the media, among the electorate,” Jolly said on “Deadline: The White House,” according to a clip shared. from the Mediaites.

“They’re saying, ‘I just give up. We will give him equality. We will give him parity with traditional American values,’” Jolly continued.

“No, this is absolutely wrong. You can’t do that. Sorry to say that. You can’t go to Mar-a-Lago. You can’t do that,” Jolly said in a blunt denial of the “Morning Joe” hosts trying to mend fences after being harsh critics of the twice-elected Trump.

“That’s going to get me into trouble,” he added.

Jolly went on to assert that the politics of resistance was the only way forward for Democrats who “know” they are “right” but just lost the presidential election.

“The only answer is to redouble our efforts to hold Donald Trump and his allies accountable and redouble our efforts to present a democracy that represents all people, even in a losing environment,” he insisted.

Married couple Scarborough and Brzezinski had a one-on-one meeting with The Don at Mar-a-Lago earlier this month after years of endless and often insane criticism of the former and future president.

The pair were heavily criticized – including by Donald Trump Jr. – for appearing to be “kissing the ring,” and their ratings fell even deeper after the news reached MSNBC viewers.

Still, the hosts of “Morning Joe” stood firm and presented their actions as a necessary step forward for the sake of public discourse.

“Five years of political war has deeply divided Washington and the country. We have been as clear as ever in expressing our deep concerns about President Trump’s actions and words in the heated public debate,” Brzezinski said after their visit.

“But for nearly 80 million Americans, the denial of the election, the public trials, January 6 were not as important as the issues that led them to return Donald Trump to the White House with their vote,” she continued.

“Joe and I realize it’s time to do something different, and that starts not just talking about Donald Trump, but with him.”

Viewership has fallen off a cliff not just for “Morning Joe” but for all of left-wing MSNBC since Trump’s historic victory — even the network’s most popular “Rachel Maddow Show” lost 40% of its audience.

Jolly is a regular MSNBC guest who served as the Republican representative in Florida’s 13th District House from 2014 to 2017. He lost his seat to Democrat Charlie Crist in 2016.
